What is the buyer's premium?
HeritageBids charges a flat 15% buyer’s premium on the hammer price. There are no additional online surcharges, processing fees, or hidden markups. This is substantially lower than most auction platforms, which typically charge 25–30% or more.
How does bidding work?
You can bid live during the scheduled session or place an absentee bid in advance. Each lot has a published estimate and a set opening bid. Increment steps are managed by the auctioneer and displayed in real time. Bidding is also available simultaneously via LiveAuctioneers.
How do I sign up to bid?
Create a free account at auctions.heritagebids.com. Identity verification is brief — a government-issued ID and a payment method on file. Approval typically takes one business day. Once approved, you can bid on all current lots.
What happens after I win a lot?
You will receive an invoice within 24 hours of the auction closing. Payment is due within 5 business days. Once payment clears, we arrange fully insured shipping or offer collection by appointment.
How do I consign a rug for auction?
Submit photographs and details through our consignment page for a free preliminary evaluation. Seller fees are a 10% commission plus a $525 listing fee, payable before the auction or deducted from sale proceeds as agreed.
How does consignment work?
Items remain with the consignor until sold. We prepare the auction listing using photographs, available documentation and consignor information. When possible, a buyer preview can be arranged at the consignor’s location. The consignor is paid 10 days after we receive the buyer’s payment, less the agreed seller fees.
How are lots authenticated and described?
Descriptions are based on available photographs, documentation and information supplied by the consignor. Physical inspection is not part of every consignment. Ask about the basis of the condition information for a specific lot and request additional details before bidding. An in-person preview at the consignor’s location may be arranged when possible.
